When the timefor Israelto diedrewnear,he calledhis sonJosephand saidto him, "Please,ifI have foundfavorin your sight,placenowyour handundermy thighand dealwith me in kindnessand faithfulness.Pleasedo not buryme in Egypt,
Abrahamsaidto his servant,the oldestof his household,who hadchargeof allthat he owned, "Pleaseplaceyour handundermy thigh,
"So nowifyou are goingto dealkindlyand trulywith my master,tellme; and ifnot, let me know,that I may turnto the righthandorthe left."
Isaac said,"Beholdnow,I amold[and] I do not knowthe dayof my death.
By the sweatof your faceYou will eatbread,Tillyou returnto the ground,Becausefrom it you were taken;For you are dust,And to dustyou shall return."
So Jacobsaidto Pharaoh,"The yearsof my sojourningare one hundredand thirty;fewand unpleasanthave beenthe yearsof my life,norhave they attainedthe yearsthat my fatherslivedduring the daysof their sojourning."
Then Israelsaidto Joseph,"Behold,I am about to die,but Godwill be with you, and bringyou backto the landof your fathers.
Thushis sonsdidfor him as he had chargedthem;
My fathermade me swear,saying,"Behold,I am about to die;in my gravewhichI dugfor myself in the landof Canaan,thereyou shall buryme." Nowtherefore, pleaselet me goup and burymy father;then I will return.'"
"For we will surelydieand are like waterspilledon the groundwhichcannotbe gatheredup again. Yet Goddoes not takeaway life,but planswaysso that the banishedonewill not be castout from him.
And they tookup Asaheland buriedhim in his father'stombwhichwas in Bethlehem.Then Joaband his menwentallnightuntil the day dawnedat Hebron.
"Whenyour daysare completeand you liedownwith your fathers,I will raiseup your descendantafteryou, whowill comeforthfrom you, and I will establishhis kingdom.
As David'stimeto diedrewnear,he chargedSolomonhis son,saying,
"Ifa mandies,will he live[again]? Allthe daysof my struggleI will waitUntilmy changecomes.
"For I knowthat You will bringme to deathAnd to the houseof meetingfor allliving.
"Is not manforcedto laboron earth,And [are not] his dayslike the daysof a hiredman?
Nomancan by anymeansredeem[his] brotherOrgiveto Goda ransomfor him--
That he should liveon eternally,That he should not undergodecay.
For thereis nomentionof You in death;In Sheolwhowill giveYou thanks?
Whatmancan liveand not seedeath?Can he deliverhis soulfrom the powerof Sheol?Selah.
Then the LORDsaidto Moses,"Behold,the timefor you to dieis near;callJoshua,and presentyourselves at the tentof meeting,that I may commissionhim." So Mosesand Joshuawentand presentedthemselves at the tentof meeting.
The LORDsaidto Moses,"Behold,you are about to liedownwith your fathers;and thispeoplewill ariseand playthe harlotwith the strangegodsof the land,into the midstof whichthey are going,and will forsakeMe and breakMy covenantwhichI have madewith them.
By faithJoseph,when he was dying,made mentionof the exodusof the sonsof Israel,and gave ordersconcerninghis bones.
And inasmuchas it is appointedfor mento dieonceand afterthis[comes] judgment,
So the mensaidto her, "Our lifefor yours ifyou do not tellthisbusinessof ours; and it shall comeabout when the LORDgivesus the landthat we will dealkindlyand faithfullywith you."
"Now behold,todayI am goingthe wayof allthe earth,and you knowin allyour heartsand in allyour soulsthat not onewordof allthe goodwordswhichthe LORDyour Godspokeconcerningyou has failed;allhave been fulfilledfor you, not oneof them has failed.
Davidalso said,"As the LORDlives,surelythe LORDwill strikehim, orhis daywill comethat he dies,orhe will godowninto battleand perish.
