Then someMidianitetraderspassedby, so they pulled[him] up and liftedJosephout of the pit,and soldhim to the Ishmaelitesfor twenty[shekels] of silver.Thus they broughtJosephinto Egypt.
"The patriarchsbecame jealousof Josephand soldhim into Egypt.[Yet] Godwas with him,
He senta manbeforethem, Joseph,[who] was soldas a slave.
She boreto him Zimranand Jokshanand Medanand Midianand Ishbakand Shuah.
and said,"Whatare you willingto giveme to betrayHim to you?" And they weighedout thirtypieces of silverto him.
Meanwhile, the Midianitessoldhim in Egyptto Potiphar,Pharaoh'sofficer,the captainof the bodyguard.
Then they satdownto eata meal.And as they raisedtheir eyesand looked,behold,a caravanof Ishmaeliteswas comingfrom Gilead,with their camelsbearingaromaticgumand balmand myrrh,on their wayto bring[them] downto Egypt.
Thenthat which was spokenthroughJeremiahthe prophetwas fulfilled:"AND THEY TOOKTHE THIRTYPIECES OF SILVER,THE PRICEOF THE ONE WHOSEPRICEHAD BEEN SETby the sonsof Israel;
"A multitudeof camelswill coveryou, The youngcamelsof Midianand Ephah;Allthose from Shebawill come;They will bringgoldand frankincense,And will beargood newsof the praisesof the LORD.
Dealwith them as with Midian,As with Sisera[and] Jabinat the torrentof Kishon,
Yet Gideonsaidto them, "I would requestof you, that eachof you giveme an earringfrom his spoil."(For they had goldearrings,becausethey were Ishmaelites.)
Then the menof Israelsaidto Gideon,"Ruleover us, bothyou and your son,alsoyour son'sson,for you have deliveredus from the handof Midian."
"Be hostileto the Midianitesand strikethem;
The nameof the Midianitewomanwho was slainwas Cozbithe daughterof Zur,whowas headof the peopleof a father'shouseholdin Midian.
Now the priestof Midianhad sevendaughters;and they cameto drawwaterand filledthe troughsto watertheir father'sflock.
Now Josephhad been takendownto Egypt;and Potiphar,an Egyptianofficerof Pharaoh,the captainof the bodyguard,boughthim from the Ishmaelites,whohad takenhim downthere.
When Joseph'sbrotherssawthat their fatherwas dead,they said,"What if Josephbearsa grudgeagainstus and paysus backin fullfor allthe wrongwhichwe didto him!"
"For I was in factkidnappedfrom the landof the Hebrews,and evenhereI have donenothingthat they should have putme into the dungeon."
"He who kidnapsa man,whether he sellshim or he is foundin his possession,shall surelybe putto death.
Ifit be from fiveyearseven to twentyyearsoldthen your valuationfor the maleshall be twentyshekelsand for the femaletenshekels.
So they pulledJeremiahup with the ropesand liftedhim out of the cistern,and Jeremiahstayedin the courtof the guardhouse.
