So Hamorand his sonShechemcameto the gateof their cityand spoketo the menof their city,saying,
indeedI will greatlyblessyou, and I will greatlymultiplyyour seedas the starsof the heavensand as the sandwhichis on the seashore;and your seedshall possessthe gateof their enemies.
Now Ephronwas sittingamongthe sonsof Heth;and Ephronthe HittiteansweredAbrahamin the hearingof the sonsof Heth;[even] of allwho wentin at the gateof his city,saying,
The youngmandid not delayto dothe thing,becausehe was delightedwith Jacob'sdaughter.Now he was morerespectedthanallthe householdof his father.
"Thesemenare friendlywith us; therefore let them livein the landand tradein it, for behold,the landis largeenoughfor them. Let us taketheir daughtersin marriage,and giveour daughtersto them.
Absalomused to riseearlyand standbesidethe wayto the gate;and when anymanhada suitto cometo the kingfor judgment,Absalomwould callto him and say,"From whatcityare you?" And he would say,"Your servantis from oneof the tribesof Israel."

How blessedis the manwhosequiveris fullof them; They will not be ashamedWhenthey speakwith their enemiesin the gate.
Her husbandis knownin the gates,When he sitsamongthe eldersof the land.
They hatehim who reprovesin the gate,And they abhorhim who speaks[with] integrity.
For I knowyour transgressionsare manyand your sinsare great,[You] who distressthe righteous[and] acceptbribesAnd turnasidethe poorin the gate.
Hateevil,lovegood,And establishjusticein the gate!Perhapsthe LORDGodof hostsMay be graciousto the remnantof Joseph.
Theseare the thingswhichyou should do:speakthe truthto oneanother;judgewith truthand judgmentfor peacein your gates.
then you shall bringout that manorthat womanwhohas donethisevildeedto your gates,[that is], the manorthe woman,and you shall stonethem to death.
Now Boazwentup to the gateand satdownthere,and behold,the closerelativeof whomBoazspokewas passingby, so he said,"Turnaside,friend,sitdownhere."And he turnedasideand satdown.
