So he fledwith allthat he had; and he aroseand crossedthe [Euphrates] River,and sethis facetoward the hillcountryof Gilead.
On that daythe LORDmadea covenantwith Abram,saying,"To your descendantsI have giventhisland,From the riverof Egyptas faras the greatriver,the riverEuphrates:
The nameof the thirdriveris Tigris;it flowseastof Assyria.And the fourthriveris the Euphrates.
And JacobdeceivedLabanthe Arameanby not tellinghim that he was fleeing.
When it was toldLabanon the thirddaythat Jacobhad fled,
then he tookhis kinsmenwith him and pursuedhim [a distance of] sevendays'journey,and he overtookhim in the hillcountryof Gilead.
Then they satdownto eata meal.And as they raisedtheir eyesand looked,behold,a caravanof Ishmaeliteswas comingfrom Gilead,with their camelsbearingaromaticgumand balmand myrrh,on their wayto bring[them] downto Egypt.
Now he sentJudahbeforehim to Joseph,to pointout [the way] beforehim to Goshen;and they cameinto the landof Goshen.
Then they cameto Gileadand to the landof Tahtim-hodshi,and they cameto Dan-jaanand aroundto Sidon,
Now Elijahthe Tishbite,who was of the settlersof Gilead,saidto Ahab,"As the LORD,the Godof Israellives,beforewhomI stand,surelythere shall be neitherdewnor raintheseyears,exceptby my word."
ThenHazaelkingof Aramwentup and foughtagainstGathand capturedit, and Hazaelsethis faceto goup to Jerusalem.
"They will askfor the wayto Zion,[turning] their facesin its direction;they will comethat they may jointhemselves to the LORD[in] an everlastingcovenantthat will not be forgotten.
When Balaamsawthat it pleasedthe LORDto blessIsrael,he did not goas at othertimesto seekomensbut he sethis facetowardthe wilderness.
Now the sonsof Reubenand the sonsof Gadhadan exceedinglylargenumberof livestock.So when they sawthe landof Jazerand the landof Gilead,that it was indeeda placesuitablefor livestock,
"So we tookpossessionof thislandat that time.From Aroer,whichis by the valleyof Arnon,and halfthe hillcountryof Gileadand its citiesI gaveto the Reubenitesand to the Gadites.
The people,the leadersof Gilead,saidto oneanother,"Whois the manwhowill beginto fightagainst the sonsof Ammon?He shall becomeheadover allthe inhabitantsof Gilead."
