Then AbimelechcalledAbrahamand saidto him, "Whathave you doneto us? And howhave I sinnedagainst you, that you have broughton me and on my kingdoma greatsin?You have doneto me thingsthat ought not to be done."
Then PharaohcalledAbramand said,"Whatis thisyou have doneto me? Whydid you not tellme that she was your wife?
And Abimelechsaidto Abraham,"Whathave you encountered,that you have donethisthing?"
So Abimelecharoseearlyin the morningand calledallhis servantsand toldallthesethingsin their hearing;and the menwere greatlyfrightened.
Abimelechsaid,"Whatis thisyou have doneto us? Oneof the peoplemight easilyhave lainwith your wife,and you would have broughtguiltupon us."
So it cameabout in the morningthat, behold,it was Leah!And he saidto Laban,"Whatis thisyou have doneto me? Was it not for Rachelthat I servedwith you? Whythen have you deceivedme?"
Now the sonsof Jacobcamein from the fieldwhen they heard[it]; and the menwere grieved,and they were veryangrybecausehe had donea disgracefulthingin Israelby lyingwith Jacob'sdaughter,for sucha thingought not to be done.
Now it was about threemonthslater that Judahwas informed,"Your daughter-in-lawTamarhas playedthe harlot,and behold,she is alsowith childby harlotry."Then Judahsaid,"Bringher out and let her be burned!"
"Thereis noone greaterin thishousethanI, and he has withheldnothingfrom me exceptyou, becauseyou are his wife.Howthen could I dothisgreateviland sinagainst God?"
Then David'sangerburnedgreatlyagainst the man,and he saidto Nathan,"As the LORDlives,surelythe manwho has donethisdeservesto die.
But she answeredhim, "No,my brother,do not violateme, for sucha thingis not donein Israel;do not dothisdisgracefulthing!
Then Mosessaidto Aaron,"Whatdid thispeopledoto you, that you have brought[such] greatsinupon them?"
Then the LORDsmotethe people,becauseof whatthey didwith the calfwhichAaronhad made.
He who leadsthe uprightastrayin an evilwayWill himselffallinto his own pit,But the blamelesswill inheritgood.
If [there is] a manwhocommitsadulterywith another man'swife,one whocommitsadulterywith his friend'swife,the adultererand the adulteressshall surelybe putto death.
For there is nopartialitywith God.
whomustbe silencedbecausethey are upsettingwholefamilies,teachingthingsthey shouldnot [teach] for the sakeof sordidgain.
Marriage[is to be held] in honoramongall,and the [marriage] bed[is to be] undefiled;for fornicatorsand adulterersGodwill judge.
