Then Godsaid,"Let Us makemanin Our image,according to Our likeness;and let them ruleover the fishof the seaand over the birdsof the skyand over the cattleand over allthe earth,and over everycreepingthingthat creepson the earth."
Theseare the sonsof Ham,according to their families,according to their languages,by their lands,by their nations.
Theseare the familiesof the sonsof Noah,according to their genealogies,by their nations;and out of thesethe nationswere separatedon the earthafterthe flood.
From thesethe coastlandsof the nationswere separatedinto their lands,everyoneaccording to his language,according to their families,into their nations.
The LORDcamedownto seethe cityand the towerwhichthe sonsof menhad built.
Then the LORDGodsaid,"Behold,the manhas becomelike oneof Us, knowinggoodand evil;and now,he mightstretchout his hand,and takealsofrom the treeof life,and eat,and liveforever"--
They did not know,however, that Josephunderstood,for there was an interpreterbetweenthem.
"He deprivesthe trustedones of speechAnd takesaway the discernmentof the elders.
He who sitsin the heavenslaughs,The Lordscoffsat them.
The LORDnullifiesthe counselof the nations;He frustratesthe plansof the peoples.
Confuse,O Lord,dividetheir tongues,For I have seenviolenceand strifein the city.
The LORDsaidto him, "Whohas mademan'smouth?Orwhomakes[him] muteordeaf,orseeingorblind?Is it not I, the LORD?
You will nolonger seea fiercepeople,A peopleof unintelligiblespeechwhich noone comprehends,Of a stammeringtonguewhich nooneunderstands.
Then I heardthe voiceof the Lord,saying,"Whomshall I send,and whowill gofor Us?" Then I said,"Heream I. Sendme!"
"Behold,I am bringinga nationagainstyou from afar,O houseof Israel,"declaresthe LORD."It is an enduringnation,It is an ancientnation,A nationwhose languageyou do not know,Norcan you understandwhatthey say.
Thereforeifthe wholechurchassemblestogetherand allspeakin tongues,and ungifted menorunbelieversenter,will they not saythat you are mad?
