Then the LORDsaidto Moses,"Writethisin a bookas a memorialand reciteit to Joshua,that I will utterlyblotout the memoryof Amalekfrom underheaven."
Now it cameabout afterthe deathof Saul,when Davidhad returnedfrom the slaughterof the Amalekites,that Davidremainedtwodaysin Ziklag.
from Aramand Moaband the sonsof Ammonand the Philistinesand Amalek,and from the spoilof Hadadezer,sonof Rehob,kingof Zobah.
From them, from the sonsof Simeon,fivehundredmenwentto MountSeir,with Pelatiah,Neariah,Rephaiahand Uzziel,the sonsof Ishi,as their leaders.
They destroyedthe remnantof the Amalekiteswhoescaped,and have livedthereto thisday.
shall we againbreakYour commandmentsand intermarrywith the peopleswho commit theseabominations?Would You not be angrywith us to the pointof destruction,untilthereis noremnantnorany who escape?
"Memoryof him perishesfrom the earth,And he has nonameabroad.
"Ohthat my wordswere written!Ohthat they were inscribedin a book!
The enemyhas cometo an endin perpetualruins,And You have uprootedthe cities;The verymemoryof them has perished.
Now thisdaywill be a memorialto you, and you shall celebrateit [as] a feastto the LORD;throughout your generationsyou are to celebrateit [as] a permanentordinance.
"And it shall serveas a signto you on your hand,and as a reminderon your forehead,that the lawof the LORDmay be in your mouth;for with a powerfulhandthe LORDbroughtyou out of Egypt.
So JoshuaoverwhelmedAmalekand his peoplewith the edgeof the sword.
Moseswrotedownallthe wordsof the LORD.Then he aroseearlyin the morning,and builtan altarat the footof the mountainwith twelvepillarsfor the twelvetribesof Israel.
The LORDsaidto Moses,"Whoeverhas sinnedagainst Me, I will blothim out of My book.
Then the LORDsaidto Moses,"Writedownthesewords,for in accordancewith thesewordsI have madea covenantwith you and with Israel."
The memoryof the righteousis blessed,But the nameof the wickedwill rot.
"Thussaysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,Writeallthe wordswhichI have spokento you in a book.
"Takea scrolland writeon it allthe wordswhichI have spokento you concerningIsraeland concerningJudah,and concerningallthe nations,from the dayI [first] spoketo you, from the daysof Josiah,even to thisday.
And he lookedat Amalekand tookup his discourseand said,"Amalekwas the firstof the nations,But his end[shall be] destruction."
Mosesrecordedtheir startingplacesaccording to their journeysby the commandof the LORD,and theseare their journeysaccording to their startingplaces.
So Moseswrotethislawand gaveit to the priests,the sonsof Leviwho carriedthe arkof the covenantof the LORD,and to allthe eldersof Israel.
then you shall sayto them, 'Becausethe watersof the Jordanwere cutoffbeforethe arkof the covenantof the LORD;when it crossedthe Jordan,the watersof the Jordanwere cutoff.'So thesestonesshall becomea memorialto the sonsof Israelforever."
and the LORDsentyou on a mission,and said,Goand utterlydestroythe sinners,the Amalekites,and fightagainst them untilthey are exterminated.'
Then it happenedwhen Davidand his mencameto Ziklagon the thirdday,that the Amalekiteshad madea raidon the Negevand on Ziklag,and had overthrownZiklagand burnedit with fire;
Davidslaughteredthem from the twilightuntilthe eveningof the nextday;and not a manof them escaped,exceptfourhundredyoungmenwhorodeon camelsand fled.
