but he hangedthe chiefbaker,justas Josephhad interpretedto them.
Afterthesethingswhen the angerof KingAhasuerushad subsided,he rememberedVashtiand whatshe had doneand whathad been decreedagainsther.
Then Zereshhis wifeand allhis friendssaidto him, "Have a gallowsfiftycubitshighmadeand in the morningaskthe kingto have Mordecaihangedon it; then gojoyfullywith the kingto the banquet."And the advicepleasedHaman,so he had the gallowsmade.
The kingarosein his angerfrom drinkingwine[and went] into the palacegarden;but Hamanstayedto begfor his lifefrom QueenEsther,for he sawthat harmhad been determinedagainsthim by the king.
Now when the kingreturnedfrom the palacegardeninto the placewherethey were drinkingwine,Hamanwas fallingon the couchwhereEstherwas. Then the kingsaid,"Will he evenassaultthe queenwith me in the house?"As the wordwentout of the king'smouth,they coveredHaman'sface.
So KingAhasuerussaidto QueenEstherand to Mordecaithe Jew,"Behold,I have giventhe houseof Hamanto Esther,and him they have hangedon the gallowsbecausehe had stretchedout his handsagainst the Jews.
So the kingcommandedthat it should be doneso;and an edictwas issuedin Susa,and Haman'stensonswere hanged.
But when it cameto the king'sattention,he commandedby letterthat his wickedschemewhichhe had devisedagainstthe Jews,should returnon his own headand that he and his sonsshould be hangedon the gallows.
"For he is throwninto the netby his own feet,And he stepson the webbing.
"He fliesawaylike a dream,and they cannotfindhim; Even like a visionof the nighthe is chasedaway.
Their swordwill entertheir own heart,And their bowswill be broken.
His mischiefwill returnupon his own head,And his violencewill descendupon his own pate.
He has broughtbacktheir wickednessupon them And will destroythem in their evil;The LORDour Godwill destroythem.
He who diligentlyseeksgoodseeksfavor,But he who seeksevil,evil will cometo him.
The righteousis deliveredfrom trouble,But the wickedtakeshis place.
He who digsa pitwill fallinto it, And he who rollsa stone,it will comebackon him.
"Thereforethussaysthe LORD,'You have not obeyedMe in proclaimingreleaseeachmanto his brotherand eachmanto his neighbor.Behold,I am proclaiminga releaseto you,' declaresthe LORD,to the sword,to the pestilenceand to the famine;and I will makeyou a terrorto allthe kingdomsof the earth.
Thus My angerwill be spentand I will satisfyMy wrathon them, and I will be appeased;then they will knowthat I, the LORD,have spokenin My zealwhen I have spentMy wrathupon them.
The kingthen gaveorders,and they broughtthosemenwhohad maliciouslyaccusedDaniel,and they castthem, their childrenand their wivesinto the lions'den;and they had not reachedthe bottomof the denbeforethe lionsoverpoweredthem and crushedalltheir bones.
ThenDariusthe kingwroteto allthe peoples,nationsand [men of every] languagewhowere livingin allthe land:"May your peaceabound!
Then He criedout to me and spoketo me saying,"See,those who are goingto the landof the northhave appeasedMy wrathin the landof the north."
Samsonsaidto them, "Sinceyou actlike this,I will surelytakerevengeon you, but afterthat I will quit."
