Then he sentEliakimwhowas overthe householdwith Shebnathe scribeand the eldersof the priests,coveredwith sackcloth,to Isaiahthe prophet,the sonof Amoz.
"Is it a fastlike thiswhich I choose,a dayfor a manto humblehimself?Is it for bowingone's headlike a reedAnd for spreadingout sackclothand ashesas a bed? Will you callthisa fast,even an acceptabledayto the LORD?
"It is givento be polished,that it may be handled;the swordis sharpenedand polished,to giveit into the handof the slayer.

So I gavemy attentionto the LordGodto seek[Him by] prayerand supplications,with fasting,sackclothand ashes.

Nearis the greatdayof the LORD,Nearand comingveryquickly;Listen,the dayof the LORD!In it the warriorcriesout bitterly.

Then Joshuatorehis clothesand fellto the earthon his facebeforethe arkof the LORDuntilthe evening,[both] he and the eldersof Israel;and they putduston their heads.
