But it will not be wellfor the evilmanand he will not lengthenhis dayslike a shadow, becausehe does not fearGod.
"Like a flowerhe comesforthand withers. He also fleeslike a shadowand does not remain.
"Indeed, the lightof the wickedgoesout, And the flameof his firegivesnolight.
That the triumphingof the wickedis short,And the joyof the godlessmomentary?
"For the wickedis reservedfor the dayof calamity; They will be ledforthat the dayof fury.
The LORDteststhe righteousand the wicked,And the one who lovesviolenceHis soulhates.
Manis likea merebreath; His daysare like a passingshadow.
Do not fretbecause of evildoers,Be not envioustoward wrongdoers.
"Behold,You have mademy days[as] handbreadths,And my lifetimeas nothingin Your sight;Surelyeverymanat his bestis a merebreath.Selah.
But You, O God,will bringthem downto the pitof destruction;Menof bloodshedand deceitwill not liveout halftheir days. But I will trustin You.
I knowthat everythingGoddoeswill remainforever;thereis nothingto addto it and thereis nothingto takefrom it, for Godhas [so] workedthat men should fearHim.
For in manydreamsand in manywordsthere is emptiness.Rather,fearGod.
For whoknowswhatis goodfor a manduring [his] lifetime,[during] the fewyearsof his futilelife? He will spendthem like a shadow. For whocan tella manwhatwill be afterhim underthe sun?
I have seeneverythingduring my lifetimeof futility;thereis a righteousmanwho perishesin his righteousnessand thereis a wickedmanwho prolongs[his life] in his wickedness.
It is goodthat you grasponethingand alsonot letgoof the other;for the one who fearsGodcomesforthwith bothof them.
Nomanhasauthorityto restrainthe windwith the wind,or authorityover the dayof death;and thereis nodischargein the timeof war,and evilwill not deliverthose whopracticeit.
Woeto the wicked![It will go] badly[with him], For whathe deserveswill be doneto him.
Thereforethisiniquitywill be to you Like a breachabout to fall,A bulgein a highwall,Whosecollapsecomessuddenlyin an instant,
"Thereis nopeace,"saysmy God,"for the wicked."
"Nolongerwill there be in it an infant[who lives but a few] days,Or an oldmanwhodoes not liveout his days; For the youthwill dieat the ageof one hundredAnd the one who does not reachthe ageof one hundredWill be [thought] accursed.
"But they have not becomecontriteeven to thisday, norhave they fearednorwalkedin My lawor My statutes, whichI have setbeforeyou and beforeyour fathers."'
So you will againdistinguishbetweenthe righteousand the wicked, betweenone who servesGodand one whodoes not serveHim.
and will come forth;thosewho didthe good[deeds] to a resurrectionof life, thosewho committedthe evil[deeds] to a resurrectionof judgment.
Yetyou do not knowwhatyour lifewill be like tomorrow. You are [just] a vaporthat appearsfor a little whileand thenvanishes away.
and in [their] greedthey will exploityou with false words;their judgmentfrom long agois not idle, and their destructionis not asleep.
