Thus I consideredallmy activitieswhichmy handshad doneand the laborwhichI had exerted,and beholdallwas vanityand strivingafter windand therewas noprofitunderthe sun.
Thus I hatedallthe fruitof my laborfor whichI had laboredunderthe sun,for I must leaveit to the manwhowill comeafterme.
And whoknowswhether he will be a wisemanora fool?Yet he will have controloverallthe fruitof my laborfor whichI have laboredby actingwiselyunderthe sun.Thistoois vanity.
For whatdoes a mangetin allhis laborand in his strivingwith whichhe laborsunderthe sun?
Whatprofitis there to the workerfrom that in whichhe toils?
But better[off] thanbothof them is the one whohas neverexisted,whohas neverseenthe evilactivitythat is doneunderthe sun.
Then I lookedagainat vanityunderthe sun.
Thisalsois a grievousevil--exactlyas a man is born,thuswill he die.So whatis the advantageto him whotoilsfor the wind?
Hereis whatI have seento be goodand fitting:to eat,to drinkand enjoyoneself in allone's laborin whichhe toilsunderthe sun[during] the fewyearsof his lifewhichGodhas givenhim; for thisis his reward.
For whoknowswhatis goodfor a manduring [his] lifetime,[during] the fewyearsof his futilelife?He will spendthem like a shadow.For whocan tella manwhatwill be afterhim underthe sun?
Wisdomalongwith an inheritanceis goodAnd an advantageto those who seethe sun.
AlsothisI came to seeas wisdomunderthe sun,and it impressedme.
Thisis an evilin allthat is doneunderthe sun,that there is onefatefor allmen.Furthermore,the heartsof the sonsof menare fullof eviland insanityis in their heartsthroughout their lives.Afterwardsthey [go] to the dead.
Indeedtheir love,their hateand their zealhave alreadyperished,and they will nolongerhavea sharein allthat is doneunderthe sun.
"Whydo you spendmoneyfor what is not bread,And your wagesfor whatdoes not satisfy?Listencarefullyto Me, and eatwhatis good,And delightyourselfin abundance.
"Is it not indeedfrom the LORDof hostsThat peoplestoilfor fire,And nationsgrowwearyfor nothing?
"Whatprofitis the idolwhenits makerhas carvedit, [Or] an image,a teacherof falsehood?For [its] makertrustsin his [own] handiworkWhen he fashionsspeechlessidols.
"For whatwill it profita manifhe gainsthe wholeworldand forfeitshis soul?Orwhatwill a mangivein exchangefor his soul?
"Do not workfor the foodwhich perishes,but for the foodwhich enduresto eternallife,whichthe Sonof Manwill giveto you, for on Him the Father,God,has set His seal."
