"I will also makethiscitya desolationand an [object of] hissing;everyonewho passesby it will be astonishedand hissbecauseof allits disasters.
But let that manbe like the citiesWhichthe LORDoverthrewwithoutrelenting,And let him hearan outcryin the morningAnd a shoutof alarmat noon;
"Edomwill becomean objectof horror;everyonewho passesby it will be horrifiedand will hissat allits wounds.
"Like the overthrowof Sodomand Gomorrahwith its neighbors,"saysthe LORD,"noonewill livethere,norwill a sonof manresidein it.
"Becauseof the indignationof the LORDshe will not be inhabited,But she will be completelydesolate;Everyonewho passesby Babylonwill be horrifiedAnd will hissbecauseof allher wounds.
Howcan I giveyou up, O Ephraim?How can I surrenderyou, O Israel?Howcan I makeyou like Admah?How can I treatyou like Zeboiim?My heartis turnedoverwithinMe, AllMy compassionsare kindled.
"Therefore,as I live,"declaresthe LORDof hosts,The Godof Israel,"SurelyMoabwill be like SodomAnd the sonsof Ammonlike Gomorrah--A placepossessedby nettlesand saltpits,And a perpetualdesolation.The remnantof My peoplewill plunderthem And the remainderof My nationwill inheritthem."
but if it yieldsthornsand thistles,it is worthlessand closeto being cursed,and it endsup being burned.
