"Then I will makeup to you for the yearsThat the swarminglocusthas eaten,The creepinglocust,the strippinglocustand the gnawinglocust,My greatarmywhichI sentamong you.
A fireconsumesbeforethem And behindthem a flameburns.The landis like the gardenof Edenbeforethem But a desolatewildernessbehindthem, And nothingat allescapesthem.
"I smoteyou with scorching[wind] and mildew;And the caterpillarwas devouringYour manygardensand vineyards,figtreesand olivetrees;Yet you have not returnedto Me," declaresthe LORD.
"You will sowbut you will not reap.You will treadthe olivebut will not anointyourself with oil;And the grapes,but you will not drinkwine.
"You have sownmuch,but harvestlittle;[you] eat,but [there is] not [enough] to be satisfied;[you] drink,but [there is] not [enough] to becomedrunk;[you] puton clothing,but nooneis warm[enough]; and he who earns,earnswages[to put] into a pursewith holes."
"[You] lookfor much,but behold,[it comes] to little;when you bring[it] home,I blowit [away]. Why?"declaresthe LORDof hosts,"Becauseof My housewhich[lies] desolate,while eachof you runsto his own house.
"Behold,I am going to rebukeyour offspring,and I will spreadrefuseon your faces,the refuseof your feasts;and you will be takenaway with it.
"The cricketshall possessallyour treesand the produceof your ground.
