"And I sawthat for allthe adulteriesof faithlessIsrael,I had senther awayand givenher a writof divorce,yet her treacheroussisterJudahdid not fear;but she wentand was a harlotalso.
"It was said,WHOEVERSENDSHIS WIFEAWAY,LET HIM GIVEHER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE';
They said,"Mosespermitted[a man] TO WRITEA CERTIFICATEOF DIVORCEAND SEND [her] AWAY."
"Whena mantakesa wifeand marriesher, and it happensthat she findsnofavorin his eyesbecausehe has foundsomeindecencyin her, and he writesher a certificateof divorceand puts[it] in her handand sendsher out from his house,
and she leaveshis houseand goesand becomesanotherman's[wife],
[then] her formerhusbandwhosenther awayis not allowedto takeher againto be his wife,sinceshe has been defiled;for that is an abominationbeforethe LORD,and you shall not bringsinon the landwhichthe LORDyour Godgivesyou as an inheritance.
