You who rejoicein Lodebar,And say,"Have we not by our [own] strengthtakenKarnaimfor ourselves?"
Then Jehoashthe sonof Jehoahaztookagainfrom the handof Ben-hadadthe sonof Hazaelthe citieswhichhe hadtakenin warfrom the handof Jehoahazhis father.ThreetimesJoashdefeatedhim and recoveredthe citiesof Israel.
He restoredthe borderof Israelfrom the entranceof Hamathas faras the Seaof the Arabah,according to the wordof the LORD,the Godof Israel,whichHe spokethroughHis servantJonahthe sonof Amittai,the prophet,whowas of Gath-hepher.
IfI have gloatedbecausemy wealthwas great,And becausemy handhad secured[so] much;
"Have I rejoicedat the extinctionof my enemy,Or exultedwhenevilbefellhim?
Whoseconfidenceis fragile,And whose trusta spider'sweb.
"He trustsin his house,but it does not stand;He holdsfastto it, but it does not endure.
The kingsof the earthtaketheir standAnd the rulerstakecounseltogetherAgainstthe LORDand againstHis Anointed,saying,
"I saidto the boastful,'Do not boast,'And to the wicked,Do not liftup the horn;
Do not liftup your hornon high,Do not speakwith insolentpride.'"
Rejoice,youngman,during your childhood,and let your heartbe pleasantduring the daysof youngmanhood.And followthe impulsesof your heartand the desiresof your eyes.Yet knowthat Godwill bringyou to judgmentfor allthesethings.
Now it cameabout in the daysof Ahaz,the sonof Jotham,the sonof Uzziah,kingof Judah,that Rezinthe kingof Aramand Pekahthe sonof Remaliah,kingof Israel,wentup to Jerusalemto [wage] waragainstit, but couldnot conquerit.
and sayto him, 'Takecareand be calm,havenofearand do not be faintheartedbecauseof thesetwostubsof smolderingfirebrands,on account of the fierceangerof Rezinand Aramand the sonof Remaliah.
"Inasmuchas thesepeoplehave rejectedthe gentlyflowingwatersof ShiloahAnd rejoicein Rezinand the sonof Remaliah;
"Becauseyou are glad,becauseyou are jubilant,O you who pillageMy heritage,Becauseyou skipaboutlike a threshingheiferAnd neighlike stallions,
Thussaysthe LORD,"Let not a wisemanboastof his wisdom,and let not the mightymanboastof his might,let not a richmanboastof his riches;
"Speakand say,'Thussaysthe LordGOD,"Behold,I am againstyou, Pharaohkingof Egypt,The greatmonsterthat liesin the midstof his rivers,That has said,'My Nileis mine, and I myselfhave made[it].'
"The landof Egyptwill becomea desolationand waste.Then they will knowthat I am the LORD.Becauseyou said,'The Nileis mine, and I have made[it],'
Therefore,O king,may my advicebe pleasingto you: breakawaynow from your sinsby [doing] righteousnessand from your iniquitiesby showingmercyto [the] poor,in casethere may be a prolongingof your prosperity.'
"The kingreflectedand said,'Is thisnot Babylonthe great,whichI myselfhave builtas a royalresidenceby the mightof my powerand for the gloryof my majesty?'
So the LORDGodappointeda plantand it grewup overJonahto be a shadeoverhis headto deliverhim from his discomfort.And Jonahwas extremelyhappyaboutthe plant.
"In that dayyou will feelnoshameBecauseof allyour deedsBy whichyou have rebelledagainst Me; For thenI will removefrom your midstYour proud,exultingones,And you will neveragainbe haughtyOn My holymountain.
So I saidto the angelwho was speakingwith me, "Whatare these?"And he answeredme, "Theseare the hornswhichhave scatteredJudah,Israeland Jerusalem."
"Truly,truly,I sayto you, that you will weepand lament,but the worldwill rejoice;you will grieve,but your griefwill be turnedinto joy.
But as it is, you boastin your arrogance;allsuchboastingis evil.
And thosewho dwellon the earth[will] rejoiceoverthem and celebrate;and they will sendgiftsto one another,becausethesetwoprophetstormentedthosewho dwellon the earth.
They wentout into the fieldand gathered[the grapes of] their vineyardsand trod[them], and helda festival;and they wentinto the houseof their god,and ateand drankand cursedAbimelech.
As the arkof the covenantof the LORDcameinto the camp,allIsraelshoutedwith a greatshout,so that the earthresounded.
