Thussaysthe LORD,"For threetransgressionsof Edomand for fourI will not revokeits [punishment], Becausehe pursuedhis brotherwith the sword,While he stifledhis compassion;His angeralso torecontinually,And he maintainedhis furyforever.
For againthe Edomiteshad comeand attackedJudahand carriedaway captives.
ThoughEdomsays,"We have been beatendown,but we will returnand buildup the ruins";thussaysthe LORDof hosts,"They may build,but I will teardown;and [men] will callthem the wickedterritory,and the peopletoward whomthe LORDis indignantforever."
Egyptwill becomea waste,And Edomwill becomea desolatewilderness,Becauseof the violencedone to the sonsof Judah,In whoselandthey have shedinnocentblood.
Remember,O LORD,against the sonsof EdomThe dayof Jerusalem,Who said,"Razeit, razeit To its very foundation."
Whois a GodlikeYou, who pardonsiniquityAnd passesoverthe rebelliousactof the remnantof His possession?He does not retainHis angerforever,BecauseHe delightsin unchanginglove.
Do not be eagerin your heartto be angry,For angerresidesin the bosomof fools.
"You shall not detestan Edomite,for he is your brother;you shall not detestan Egyptian,becauseyou were an alienin his land.
Thereforebe imitatorsof God,as belovedchildren;
"I have lovedyou," saysthe LORD.But you say,"Howhave You lovedus?" "[Was] not EsauJacob'sbrother?"declaresthe LORD."Yet I have lovedJacob;
"For I will not contendforever,Norwill I alwaysbe angry;For the spiritwould growfaintbeforeMe, And the breath[of those whom] I have made.
Will You be angrywith us forever?Will You prolongYour angerto allgenerations?
"But I am veryangrywith the nationswho are at ease;for while I was only a littleangry,they furtheredthe disaster."
"Nowbehold,the sonsof Ammonand Moaband MountSeir,whomYou did not letIsraelinvadewhen they cameout of the landof Egypt(they turnedasidefrom them and did not destroythem),
