So they gaveto Jacoballthe foreigngodswhichthey hadand the ringswhichwere in their ears,and Jacobhidthem underthe oakwhichwas nearShechem.
So Sauldiedfor his trespasswhichhe committedagainst the LORD,becauseof the wordof the LORDwhichhe did not keep;and alsobecause he askedcounsel of a medium,makinginquiry[of it],
He made his sonspassthrough the firein the valleyof Ben-hinnom;and he practicedwitchcraft,useddivination,practicedsorceryand dealtwith mediumsand spiritists.He didmuchevilin the sightof the LORD,provokingHim [to anger].
He tookthe calfwhichthey had madeand burned[it] with fire,and groundit to powder,and scatteredit overthe surfaceof the waterand made the sonsof Israeldrink[it].
Then Pharaohalsocalledfor [the] wisemenand [the] sorcerers,and they also,the magiciansof Egypt,didthe samewith their secretarts.
But the magiciansof Egyptdidthe samewith their secretarts;and Pharaoh'sheartwas hardened,and he did not listento them, as the LORDhad said.
And you will defileyour gravenimagesoverlaidwith silver,and your moltenimagesplatedwith gold.You will scatterthem as an impurething,[and] sayto them, "Be gone!"
Whenthey sayto you, "Consultthe mediumsand the spiritistswho whisperand mutter,"should not a peopleconsulttheir God?[Should they] [consult] the deadon behalfof the living?
Then the kinggaveordersto callin the magicians,the conjurers,the sorcerersand the Chaldeansto tellthe kinghis dreams.So they camein and stoodbeforethe king.
"So he shall burnthe garment,whetherthe warporthe woof,in woolorin linen,oranyarticleof leatherin whichthe markoccurs,for it is a leprousmalignancy;it shall be burnedin the fire.
"Sothen,noneof you canbe My disciplewhodoes not giveup allhis ownpossessions.
"Orwhatwoman,ifshe hastensilvercoinsand losesonecoin,does not lighta lampand sweepthe houseand searchcarefullyuntilshe findsit?
When they had gone throughthe wholeislandas faras Paphos,they founda magician,a Jewishfalse prophetwhosenamewas Bar-Jesus,
But Elymasthe magician(for sohis nameis translated)was opposingthem, seekingto turnthe proconsulawayfrom the faith.
Manyalsoof thosewho had believedkept coming,confessingand disclosingtheir practices.
For you showed sympathyto the prisonersand acceptedjoyfullythe seizureof your property,knowingthat you havefor yourselvesa betterpossessionand a lastingone.
