Joabreplied,"Farbe it, farbe it from me that I should swallowup or destroy!
But Amasawas not on guardagainst the swordwhichwas in Joab'shandso he struckhim in the bellywith it and pouredout his inwardpartson the ground,and did not [strike] him again,and he died.Then Joaband Abishaihis brotherpursuedShebathe sonof Bichri.
"I am of those who are peaceable[and] faithfulin Israel.You are seekingto destroya city,even a motherin Israel.Whywould you swallowup the inheritanceof the LORD?"
"Suchis not the case.But a manfrom the hillcountryof Ephraim,Shebathe sonof Bichriby name,has liftedup his handagainst KingDavid.Onlyhandhim over,and I will departfrom the city."And the womansaidto Joab,"Behold,his headwill be thrownto you overthe wall."
and he said,"Be it farfrom me, O LORD,that I should dothis.[Shall I drink] the bloodof the menwho wentin [jeopardy] of their lives?"Therefore he wouldnot drinkit. Thesethingsthe threemightymendid.
"Behold,their prosperityis not in their hand;The counselof the wickedis farfrom me.
"Yet He filledtheir houseswith good[things]; But the counselof the wickedis farfrom me.
He who concealshis transgressionswill not prosper,But he who confessesand forsakes[them] will findcompassion.
"The heartis moredeceitfulthanallelse And is desperatelysick;Whocan understandit?
