And Joabthe sonof Zeruiahand the servantsof Davidwentout and metthem by the poolof Gibeon;and they satdown,oneon the onesideof the pooland the otheron the othersideof the pool.
Now the threesonsof Zeruiahwere there,Joaband Abishaiand Asahel;and Asahel[was] [as] swift-footedas oneof the gazelleswhichis in the field.
Now Joabwas overthe wholearmyof Israel,and Benaiahthe sonof Jehoiadawas overthe Cherethitesand the Pelethites;
When they were at the largestonewhichis in Gibeon,Amasacameto meetthem. Now Joabwas dressedin his military attire,and overit was a beltwith a swordin its sheathfastenedat his waist;and as he wentforward,it fellout.
Asahelthe brotherof Joabwas among the thirty;Elhananthe sonof Dodoof Bethlehem,
Joabthe sonof Zeruiah[was] overthe army,and Jehoshaphatthe sonof Ahilud[was] recorder.
He had conferredwith Joabthe sonof Zeruiahand with Abiatharthe priest;and followingAdonijahthey helpedhim.
"Now you alsoknowwhatJoabthe sonof Zeruiahdidto me, whathe didto the twocommandersof the armiesof Israel,to Abnerthe sonof Ner,and to Amasathe sonof Jether,whom he killed;he also shedthe bloodof warin peace.And he putthe bloodof waron his beltabout his waist,and on his sandalson his feet.
Now Davidhad said,"Whoeverstrikesdowna Jebusitefirstshall be chiefand commander."Joabthe sonof Zeruiahwentup first,so he becamechief.
and their sisters[were] Zeruiahand Abigail.And the threesonsof Zeruiah[were] Abshai,Joaband Asahel.
The fourthfor the fourthmonth[was] Asahelthe brotherof Joab,and Zebadiahhis sonafterhim; and in his division[were] 24,000
So they tookallthe menand wentto fightwith Ishmaelthe sonof Nethaniahand they foundhim by the greatpoolthat is in Gibeon.
Then Davidsaidto Ahimelechthe Hittiteand to Abishaithe sonof Zeruiah,Joab'sbrother,saying,"Whowill godownwith me to Saulin the camp?"And Abishaisaid,"I will godownwith you."
