Davidtherefore inquiredof Godfor the child;and Davidfastedand wentand layall nighton the ground.
So Nathanwentto his house. Then the LORDstruckthe childthat Uriah'swidowboreto David,so that he was [very] sick.
He said,"While the childwas [still] alive,I fastedand wept;for I said,Whoknows, the LORDmay be graciousto me, that the childmay live.'
Then the kingarose, torehis clothesand layon the ground;and allhis servantswere standingby with clothestorn.
It cameabout when Ahabheardthesewords, that he torehis clothesand puton sackclothand fasted, and he layin sackclothand wentabout despondently.
When I heardthesewords,I satdownand weptand mournedfor days;and I was fastingand prayingbeforethe Godof heaven.
"Go,assembleallthe Jewswho are foundin Susa, and fastfor me; do not eator drinkfor threedays, nightor day.I and my maidensalsowill fastin the sameway. And thusI will goin to the king, whichis not according to the law;and ifI perish,I perish."
Callupon Me in the dayof trouble;I shall rescueyou, and you will honorMe."
When I weptin my soulwith fasting,It becamemy reproach.
Therefore in that daythe LordGODof hostscalled[you] to weeping,to wailing,To shavingthe headand to wearingsackcloth.
O LORD,they soughtYou in distress; They could only whispera prayer,Your chasteningwas upon them.
Thenthe kingwentoffto his palaceand spentthe nightfasting, and noentertainmentwas broughtbeforehim; and his sleepfledfrom him.
So I gavemy attentionto the LordGodto seek[Him by] prayerand supplications, with fasting, sackclothand ashes.
"Whoknows,Godmay turnand relentand withdrawHis burningangerso that we will not perish."
And he was threedayswithoutsight,and neitheratenordrank.
Then Joshuatorehis clothesand fellto the earthon his facebeforethe arkof the LORDuntilthe evening,[both] he and the eldersof Israel;and they putduston their heads.
