Then the kingof Israelwhen he sawthem, saidto Elisha,"My father,shall I killthem? Shall I killthem?"
When Elishabecamesickwith the illnessof whichhe was to die,Joashthe kingof Israelcamedownto him and weptoverhim and said,"My father,my father,the chariotsof Israeland its horsemen!"
Elishasaw[it] and criedout, "My father,my father,the chariotsof Israeland its horsemen!"And he sawElijah nomore.Then he tookholdof his own clothesand torethem in twopieces.
Then his servantscamenearand spoketo him and said,"My father,had the prophettoldyou [to do some] greatthing,would you not have done[it]? Howmuchmore[then], whenhe saysto you, 'Wash,and be clean'?"
So Hazaelwentto meethim and tooka giftin his hand,even everykind of goodthingof Damascus,fortycamels'loads;and he cameand stoodbeforehim and said,"Your sonBen-hadadkingof Aramhas sentme to you, saying,'Will I recoverfrom thissickness?'"
When thosewhowere aroundHim sawwhat was going to happen,they said,"Lord,shall we strikewith the sword?"
"For ifa manfindshis enemy,will he let him goawaysafely?May the LORDtherefore rewardyou with goodin returnfor whatyou have doneto me thisday.
The menof Davidsaidto him, "Behold,[this is] the dayof whichthe LORDsaidto you, 'Behold;I am about to giveyour enemyinto your hand,and you shall doto him as it seemsgoodto you.'" Then Davidaroseand cutoffthe edgeof Saul'srobesecretly.
Then Abishaisaidto David,"TodayGodhas deliveredyour enemyinto your hand;nowtherefore, pleaselet me strikehim with the spearto the groundwith onestroke,and I will not strike him the secondtime."
