Now thiswas the reasonwhyhe rebelledagainst the king:Solomonbuiltthe Millo,[and] closedup the breachof the cityof his fatherDavid.
and to the masonsand the stonecutters,and for buyingtimberand hewnstoneto repairthe damagesto the houseof the LORD,and for allthat was laidout for the houseto repairit.
Then Jehoashsaidto the priests,"Allthe moneyof the sacredthingswhichis broughtinto the houseof the LORD,in currentmoney,[both] the moneyof eachman'sassessment[and] allthe moneywhichanyman'sheartpromptshim to bringinto the houseof the LORD,
But it cameabout that in the twenty-thirdyearof KingJehoashthe priestshad not repairedthe damagesof the house.
"Goup to Hilkiahthe highpriestthat he may countthe moneybroughtin to the houseof the LORDwhichthe doorkeepershave gatheredfrom the people.
Then the rulersof the fathers'[households], and the princesof the tribesof Israel,and the commandersof thousandsand of hundreds,with the overseersover the king'swork,offeredwillingly;
Then the peoplerejoicedbecausethey had offeredso willingly,for they madetheir offeringto the LORDwith a wholeheart,and KingDavidalsorejoicedgreatly.
He gatheredthe priestsand Levitesand saidto them, "Goout to the citiesof Judahand collectmoneyfrom allIsraelto repairthe houseof your Godannually,and you shall dothe matterquickly."But the Levitesdid not actquickly.
For the sonsof the wickedAthaliahhad brokeninto the houseof Godand evenusedthe holythingsof the houseof the LORDfor the Baals.
"Thisis what everyonewho is numberedshall give:halfa shekelaccording to the shekelof the sanctuary(the shekelis twentygerahs),halfa shekelas a contributionto the LORD.
"Those from among you will rebuildthe ancientruins;You will raiseup the age-oldfoundations;And you will be calledthe repairerof the breach,The restorerof the streetsin which to dwell.
"Speakto the sonsof Israeland sayto them, 'Whena manmakesa difficultvow,he [shall be valued] according to your valuationof personsbelonging to the LORD.
"Everyfirstissueof the wombof allflesh,whether manor animal,whichthey offerto the LORD,shall be yours; neverthelessthe firstbornof manyou shall surelyredeem,and the firstbornof uncleananimalsyou shall redeem.
