And the LORDsentan angelwho destroyedeverymightywarrior,commanderand officerin the campof the kingof Assyria.So he returnedin shameto his own land.And when he had enteredthe templeof his god,someof his ownchildrenkilledhim therewith the sword.
When the angelstretchedout his handtoward Jerusalemto destroyit, the LORDrelentedfrom the calamityand saidto the angelwho destroyedthe people,"It is enough!Nowrelaxyour hand!"And the angelof the LORDwas by the threshingfloorof Araunahthe Jebusite.
Then Isaiahthe sonof Amozsentto Hezekiahsaying,"Thussaysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,'Becauseyou have prayedto Me aboutSennacheribkingof Assyria,I have heard[you].'
But KingHezekiahand Isaiahthe prophet,the sonof Amoz,prayedaboutthisand criedout to heaven.
So the LORDsavedHezekiahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemfrom the handof Sennacheribthe kingof Assyriaand from the handof all[others], and guidedthem on everyside.
"Wisein heartand mightyin strength,Whohas defiedHim withoutharm?
"His enemiesI will clothewith shame,But upon himself his crownshall shine."
He gives greatdeliveranceto His king,And showslovingkindnessto His anointed,To Davidand his descendantsforever.
Alldaylong my dishonoris beforeme And my humiliationhas overwhelmedme,
He will cutoffthe spiritof princes;He is fearedby the kingsof the earth.
The stoutheartedwere plundered,They sankinto sleep;And noneof the warriorscould usehis hands.
At Your rebuke,O Godof Jacob,Both riderand horsewere castinto a deadsleep.
You, even You, are to be feared;And whomay standin Your presencewhenonceYou are angry?
When pridecomes,then comesdishonor,But with the humbleis wisdom.
Pride[goes] beforedestruction,And a haughtyspiritbeforestumbling.
For it says,"Are not my princesallkings?
to breakAssyriain My land,and I will tramplehim on My mountains.Then his yokewill be removedfrom them and his burdenremovedfrom their shoulder.
"Howthen can you repulseoneofficialof the leastof my master'sservantsand relyon Egyptfor chariotsand for horsemen?
Then Isaiahthe sonof Amozsent[word] to Hezekiah,saying,"Thussaysthe LORD,the Godof Israel,'Becauseyou have prayedto Me aboutSennacheribkingof Assyria,
"I am the LORD,that is My name;I will not giveMy gloryto another,NorMy praiseto gravenimages.
"Pleaseinquireof the LORDon our behalf,for Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babylonis warringagainstus; perhapsthe LORDwill dealwith us according to allHis wonderfulacts,so that [the enemy] will withdrawfrom us."
Nebuchadnezzarrespondedand said,"Blessedbe the Godof Shadrach,Meshachand Abed-nego,whohas sentHis angeland deliveredHis servantswhoputtheir trustin Him, violatingthe king'scommand,and yieldedup their bodiessoas not to serveor worshipanygodexcepttheir own God.
"My GodsentHis angeland shutthe lions'mouthsand they have not harmedme, inasmuchas I was foundinnocentbeforeHim; and alsotowardyou, O king,I have committednocrime."
And immediatelyan angelof the Lordstruckhim becausehe did not giveGodthe glory,and he was eaten by wormsand died.
