"Did I [just] beginto inquireof Godfor him today?Farbe it from me! Do not let the kingimputeanythingto his servant[or] to anyof the householdof my father,for your servantknowsnothingat allof thiswholeaffair."
Then two hundredmenwentwith Absalomfrom Jerusalem,who were invitedand wentinnocently,and they did not knowanything.
Then they kept crossingthe fordto bringoverthe king'shousehold,and to dowhatwas goodin his sight.And Shimeithe sonof Gerafelldownbeforethe kingas he was about to crossthe Jordan.
So he saidto the king,"Let not my lordconsiderme guilty,norrememberwhatyour servantdidwrongon the daywhenmy lordthe kingcameout from Jerusalem,so that the kingwould take[it] to heart.
Then Davidinquiredof the LORD,saying,"Shall I goup againstthe Philistines?Will You givethem into my hand?"And the LORDsaidto David,"Goup, for I will certainlygivethe Philistinesinto your hand."
When Davidinquiredof the LORD,He said,"You shall not go[directly] up; circlearoundbehindthem and comeat them in frontof the balsamtrees.
For our proud confidenceis this:the testimonyof our conscience,that in holinessand godlysincerity,not in fleshlywisdombut in the graceof God,we have conductedourselves in the world,and especiallytowardyou.
But the kingsaid,"You shall surelydie,Ahimelech,you and allyour father'shousehold!"
Then Abigailcameto Nabal,and behold,he was holding a feastin his house,like the feastof a king.And Nabal'sheartwas merrywithinhim, for he was verydrunk;so she did not tellhim anythingat alluntilthe morninglight.
