But JonathanansweredSaulhis fatherand saidto him, "Whyshould he be putto death?Whathas he done?"
Then Jacobbecameangryand contendedwith Laban;and Jacobsaidto Laban,"Whatis my transgression?Whatis my sinthat you have hotlypursuedme?
Do not associatewith a man[given] to anger;Or gowith a hot-temperedman,
Do not be eagerin your heartto be angry,For angerresidesin the bosomof fools.
Thisis an evilin allthat is doneunderthe sun,that there is onefatefor allmen.Furthermore,the heartsof the sonsof menare fullof eviland insanityis in their heartsthroughout their lives.Afterwardsthey [go] to the dead.
"The heartis moredeceitfulthanallelse And is desperatelysick;Whocan understandit?
And he said,"Why,whatevilhas He done?"But they kept shoutingall the more,saying,"CrucifyHim!"
And he saidto them the third time,"Why,whatevilhas this mandone?I have foundin Him noguilt[demanding] death;thereforeI will punishHim and releaseHim."
"Our Lawdoes not judgea manunlessit firsthearsfrom him and knowswhathe is doing,does it?"
Saulhurledthe spearfor he thought,"I will pinDavidto the wall."But Davidescapedfrom his presencetwice.
Then Jonathanspokewellof Davidto Saulhis fatherand saidto him, "Do not let the kingsinagainst his servantDavid,sincehe has not sinnedagainst you, and sincehis deeds[have been] verybeneficialto you.
"For he tookhis lifein his handand struckthe Philistine,and the LORDbroughtabouta greatdeliverancefor allIsrael;you saw[it] and rejoiced.Whythen will you sinagainst innocentbloodby puttingDavidto deathwithouta cause?"
Then Davidfledfrom Naiothin Ramah,and cameand saidto Jonathan,"Whathave I done?Whatis my iniquity?And whatis my sinbeforeyour father,that he is seekingmy life?"
"Ifhe says,'It is good,'your servant[will be] safe;but ifhe is veryangry,knowthat he has decidedon evil.
Then Ahimelechansweredthe kingand said,"And whoamong allyour servantsis as faithfulas David,even the king'sson-in-law,who is captain overyour guard,and is honoredin your house?
