So Davidwentout whereverSaulsenthim, [and] prospered;and Saulsethim overthe menof war.And it was pleasingin the sightof allthe peopleand alsoin the sightof Saul'sservants.
The chiefjailerdid not superviseanythingunder Joseph's chargebecausethe LORDwas with him; and whateverhe did,the LORDmade to prosper.
Davidbecamegreaterand greater,for the LORDGodof hostswas with him.
"Previously,when Saulwas kingoverus, you were the one who ledIsraelout and in. And the LORDsaidto you, 'You will shepherdMy peopleIsrael,and you will be a ruleroverIsrael.'"
The LORDwas with Jehoshaphatbecausehe followedthe exampleof his fatherDavid'searlierdays and did not seekthe Baals,
He will be like a tree[firmly] plantedby streamsof water,Whichyieldsits fruitin its seasonAnd its leafdoes not wither;And in whateverhe does,he prospers.
I will giveheedto the blamelessway.Whenwill You cometo me? I will walkwithinmy housein the integrityof my heart.
"Behold,I sendyou out as sheepin the midstof wolves;sobe shrewdas serpentsand innocentas doves.
and rescuedhim from allhis afflictions,and grantedhim favorand wisdomin the sightof Pharaoh,kingof Egypt,and he madehim governoroverEgyptand allhis household.
Sothendo not be foolish,but understandwhatthe willof the Lordis.
Conduct yourselveswith wisdomtowardoutsiders,making the mostof the opportunity.
Now the LORDwas with Judah,and they tookpossessionof the hillcountry;but they could not driveout the inhabitantsof the valleybecausethey had ironchariots.
Now Saulchosefor himself 3,000men of Israel,of which 2,000were with Saulin Michmashand in the hillcountryof Bethel,while 1,000were with Jonathanat Gibeahof Benjamin.But he sentawaythe restof the people,eachto his tent.
Now the waragainstthe Philistineswas severeallthe daysof Saul;and when Saulsawanymightymanor anyvaliantman,he attachedhim to his staff.
But allIsraeland JudahlovedDavid,and he wentout and camein beforethem.
Then the commandersof the Philistineswentout [to battle], and it happenedas oftenas they wentout, that Davidbehavedhimself morewiselythanallthe servantsof Saul.So his namewas highlyesteemed.
Jonathanstrippedhimself of the robethat was on him and gaveit to David,with his armor,includinghis swordand his bowand his belt.
It happenedas they were coming,when Davidreturnedfrom killingthe Philistine,that the womencameout of allthe citiesof Israel,singingand dancing,to meetKingSaul,with tambourines,with joyand with musicalinstruments.
Thus Samuelgrewand the LORDwas with him and let noneof his wordsfail.
