Afterthe earthquakea fire,[but] the LORD[was] not in the fire;and afterthe firea soundof a gentleblowing.
It cameabout when the sunhad set,that it was verydark,and behold,[there appeared] a smokingovenand a flamingtorchwhichpassedbetweenthesepieces.
Then the fireof the LORDfelland consumedthe burntofferingand the woodand the stonesand the dust,and lickedup the waterthat was in the trench.
Elijahrepliedto the captainof fifty,"IfI am a manof God,let firecomedownfrom heavenand consumeyou and your fifty."Then firecamedownfrom heavenand consumedhim and his fifty.
As they were goingalong and talking,behold,[there appeared] a chariotof fireand horsesof firewhich separatedthe twoof them. And Elijahwentup by a whirlwindto heaven.
"Behold,nofearof me should terrifyyou, Norshould my pressureweighheavilyon you.
"It stoodstill,but I could not discernits appearance;A form[was] beforemy eyes;[There was] silence,then I hearda voice:
The angelof the LORDappearedto him in a blazingfirefrom the midstof a bush;and he looked,and behold,the bushwas burningwith fire,yet the bushwas not consumed.
Then the LORDpassedby in frontof him and proclaimed,"The LORD,the LORDGod,compassionateand gracious,slowto anger,and aboundingin lovingkindnessand truth;
Then he saidto me, "Thisis the wordof the LORDto Zerubbabelsaying,Not by mightnorby power,but by My Spirit,'saysthe LORDof hosts.
And suddenlythere camefrom heavena noiselikea violentrushingwind,and it filledthe wholehousewherethey were sitting.
"So watchyourselvescarefully,sinceyou did not seeanyformon the daythe LORDspoketo you at Horebfrom the midstof the fire,
"Has [any] peopleheardthe voiceof Godspeakingfrom the midstof the fire,as you have heard[it], and survived?
for our Godis a consumingfire.
