Then Jacobsaidto Simeonand Levi,"You have broughttroubleon me by makingme odiousamong the inhabitantsof the land,among the Canaanitesand the Perizzites;and my menbeing fewin number,they will gathertogether againstme and attackme and I will be destroyed,I and my household."
Now when the sonsof Ammonsawthat they had becomeodiousto David,the sonsof Ammonsentand hiredthe Arameansof Beth-rehoband the Arameansof Zobah,20000footsoldiers,and the kingof Maacahwith 1,000men,and the menof Tobwith 12,000men.
Then DaviddefeatedHadadezer,the sonof Rehobkingof Zobah,as he wentto restorehis ruleat the River.
When the Arameansof Damascuscameto helpHadadezerkingof Zobah,Davidkilled22000menof the Arameans.
Now when Toukingof Hamathheardthat Davidhad defeatedallthe armyof Hadadezerkingof Zobah,
Then [certain persons] wentand toldDavidaboutthe men.And he sentto meetthem, for the menwere greatlyhumiliated.And the kingsaid,"Stayat Jerichountilyour beardsgrow,and [then] return."
Ahabkingof Israelsaidto Jehoshaphatkingof Judah,"Will you gowith me [against] Ramoth-gilead?"And he saidto him, "I am as you are, and my peopleas your people,and [we will be] with you in the battle."
Then the kingof Israelassembledthe prophets,fourhundredmen,and saidto them, "Shall we goagainstRamoth-gileadto battle,orshall I refrain?"And they said,"Goup, for Godwill give[it] into the handof the king."
Now the kingof Israeland Jehoshaphatthe kingof Judahwere sittingeachon his throne,arrayedin [their] robes,and [they] were sittingat the threshingfloorat the entranceof the gateof Samaria;and allthe prophetswere prophesyingbeforethem.
He hiredalso 100,000valiantwarriorsout of Israelfor one hundredtalentsof silver.
He foughtalso with the kingof the Ammonitesand prevailedoverthem so that the Ammonitesgavehim during that yearone hundredtalentsof silver,tenthousandkorsof wheatand tenthousandof barley.The Ammonitesalso paidhim this[amount] in the secondand in the thirdyear.
They have allturnedaside,togetherthey have becomecorrupt;Thereis noonewho doesgood,not evenone.
He makes warsto ceaseto the endof the earth;He breaksthe bowand cutsthe spearin two;He burnsthe chariotswith fire.
They saidto them, "May the LORDlookupon you and judge[you], for you have madeus odiousin Pharaoh'ssightand in the sightof his servants,to puta swordin their handto killus."
"The one who listensto you listensto Me, and the one who rejectsyou rejectsMe; and he who rejectsMe rejectsthe One who sentMe."
So,he who rejects[this] is not rejectingmanbut the Godwho givesHis HolySpiritto you.
AllIsraelheardthe newsthat Saulhad smittenthe garrisonof the Philistines,and alsothat Israelhad becomeodiousto the Philistines.The peoplewere then summonedto Saulat Gilgal.
Now when Saulhad takenthe kingdomoverIsrael,he foughtagainst allhis enemieson everyside,against Moab,the sonsof Ammon,Edom,the kingsof Zobah,and the Philistines;and whereverhe turned,he inflictedpunishment.
So AchishbelievedDavid,saying,"He has surelymadehimself odiousamong his peopleIsrael;therefore he will becomemy servantforever."
