The inhabitantsof Jebussaidto David,"You shall not enterhere."Nevertheless Davidcapturedthe strongholdof Zion(that is, the cityof David).
So Davidlivedin the strongholdand calledit the cityof David.And Davidbuiltallaroundfrom the Milloand inward.
And Davidwas unwillingto movethe arkof the LORDinto the cityof Davidwith him; but Davidtookit asideto the houseof Obed-edomthe Gittite.
Now it was toldKingDavid,saying,"The LORDhas blessedthe houseof Obed-edomand allthat belongs to him, on accountof the arkof God."Davidwentand broughtup the arkof Godfrom the houseof Obed-edominto the cityof Davidwith gladness.
ThenSolomonassembledthe eldersof Israeland allthe headsof the tribes,the leadersof the fathers'[households] of the sonsof Israel,to KingSolomonin Jerusalem,to bringup the arkof the covenantof the LORDfrom the cityof David,whichis Zion.
Then Davidand allIsraelwentto Jerusalem(that is, Jebus);and the Jebusites,the inhabitantsof the land,[were] there.
Now Davidhad said,"Whoeverstrikesdowna Jebusitefirstshall be chiefand commander."Joabthe sonof Zeruiahwentup first,so he becamechief.
Then Daviddweltin the stronghold;thereforeit was calledthe cityof David.
ThenSolomonassembledto Jerusalemthe eldersof Israeland allthe headsof the tribes,the leadersof the fathers'[households] of the sonsof Israel,to bringup the arkof the covenantof the LORDout of the cityof David,whichis Zion.
For therethroneswere setfor judgment,The thronesof the houseof David.
For the LORDhas chosenZion;He has desiredit for His habitation.
"But as for Me, I have installedMy KingUpon Zion,My holymountain."
Beautifulin elevation,the joyof the wholeearth,Is MountZion[in] the farnorth,The cityof the greatKing.
But chosethe tribeof Judah,MountZionwhichHe loved.
The LORDlovesthe gatesof ZionMorethanallthe [other] dwellingplacesof Jacob.
But of Zionit shall be said,"Thisoneand that onewere bornin her"; And the MostHighHimselfwill establishher.
Singpraisesto the LORD,who dwellsin Zion;Declareamong the peoplesHis deeds.
justas it is written,"BEHOLD,I LAYIN ZIONA STONEOF STUMBLINGAND A ROCKOF OFFENSE,AND HE WHO BELIEVESIN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."
But you have cometo MountZionand to the cityof the livingGod,the heavenlyJerusalem,and to myriadsof angels,
ThenI looked,and behold,the Lamb[was] standingon MountZion,and with Him one hundredand forty-fourthousand,havingHis nameand the nameof His Fatherwrittenon their foreheads.
But the manwas not willingto spendthe night,so he aroseand departedand cameto [a place] oppositeJebus(that is, Jerusalem).And there were with him a pairof saddleddonkeys;his concubinealso was with him.
Then Davidspoketo the menwho were standingby him, saying,"Whatwill be donefor the manwhokillsthisPhilistineand takesawaythe reproachfrom Israel?For whois thisuncircumcisedPhilistine,that he should tauntthe armiesof the livingGod?"
"Your servanthas killedboththe lionand the bear;and thisuncircumcisedPhilistinewill be like oneof them, sincehe has tauntedthe armiesof the livingGod."
