For I am in dread of destruction from Ěl, and from His excellence I could not escape.


Hide them in the dust together, bind their faces in obscurity.


To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, And the esteemed splendour of His reign.


Who knows the power of Your displeasure? And your wrath, according to the fear of You?


“What shall you do in the day of visitation, and in the ruin which comes from afar? To whom would you run for help? And where would you leave your wealth?


And He shall spread out His hands in their midst as he who swims spreads out his hands to swim, and He shall bring down their pride together, with the skill of His hands.


But this is a people robbed and plundered, all of them are snared in holes, and they are hidden in prison houses. They have become a prey, with no one to deliver – for plunder, and no one to say, “Restore!”


But יהוה is truly Elohim. He is the living Elohim and the everlasting Sovereign. At His wrath the earth shakes, and nations are unable to stand His displeasure.


Who would not fear You, O Sovereign of the nations? For this is Your due, for among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their reigns, there is none like You.


“Thus said יהוה, ‘Thus I ruin the pride of Yehuḏah and the great pride of Yerushalayim.


And the high places of Awen, the sin of Yisra’ĕl, shall be destroyed, thorn and thistle come up on their slaughter-places. And they shall say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”


You too are to become drunk, you are to go into hiding. You too are to seek refuge from the enemy.


But I shall show you whom you should fear: Fear the One who, after killing, possesses authority to cast into GĕHinnom. Yes, I say to you, fear Him!”


Then they shall begin ‘to say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” ’
