Then on that day David first appointed that thanksgiving be sung to the Lord by Asaph and his brothers.


And he said in the presence of his brothers and of the army of Samaria, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they restore it for themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish up in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, and burned ones at that?”


Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion, and to you shall vows be performed.


O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.


You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.


that I may recount all your praises, that in the gates of the daughter of Zion I may rejoice in your salvation.


Whoever sings songs to a heavy heart is like one who takes off a garment on a cold day, and like vinegar on soda.


And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a lair of jackals, and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”


Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed as a field; Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house a wooded height.


“As for these things that you see, the days will come when there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”
