He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God, and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.


But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers’ houses in Israel said to them, “You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we alone will build to the Lord, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”


As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven.


Then the king said to me, “What are you requesting?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.


“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that if any man or woman goes to the king inside the inner court without being called, there is but one law—to be put to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter so that he may live. But as for me, I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”


he regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise their prayer.


Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you!


May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!


Let those who delight in my righteousness shout for joy and be glad and say evermore, “Great is the Lord, who delights in the welfare of his servant!”


Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem;


So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment on his heart, when he goes into the Holy Place, to bring them to regular remembrance before the Lord.


It is good that you should take hold of this, and from that withhold not your hand, for the one who fears God shall come out from both of them.


I will give in my house and within my walls a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.


and bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests. And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all of its frankincense, and the priest shall burn this as its memorial portion on the altar, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.


And you shall put pure frankincense on each pile, that it may go with the bread as a memorial portion as a food offering to the Lord.


And the crown shall be in the temple of the Lord as a reminder to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen the son of Zephaniah.


On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. They shall be a reminder of you before your God: I am the Lord your God.”


and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.


And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.


You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.
