But the princes of the Ammonites said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think, because David has sent comforters to you, that he is honoring your father? Has not David sent his servants to you to search the city and to spy it out and to overthrow it?”


“Behold, I know your thoughts and your schemes to wrong me.


A man of quick temper acts foolishly, and a man of evil devices is hated.


And the people will oppress one another, every one his fellow and every one his neighbor; the youth will be insolent to the elder, and the despised to the honorable.


But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I did not know it was against me they devised schemes, saying, “Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more.”


Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth.


And Moses was very angry and said to the Lord, “Do not respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, and I have not harmed one of them.”


But Moses said to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to the war while you sit here?


But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.


But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?


And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.


Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”


Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.


just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.


For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you. And I believe it in part,


that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.


If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry—it is no sin.


that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.


For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.


For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.


Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.


For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you,


Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.


At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them!


Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
