I will both play and make myself meaner than I have done. And I will be little in my own eyes: and with the handmaid of whom thou speakest I shall appear more glorious.


Who is this that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have spoken unwisely, and things that above measure exceeded my knowledge.


I am smitten as grass, and my heart is withered: because I forgot to eat my bread.


To thee have I lifted up my eyes, who dwellest in heaven.


They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Sion: he shall not be moved for ever that dwelleth


A gradual canticle. Behold now bless ye the Lord, all ye servants of the Lord: Who stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.


the proud have hidden a net for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare: they have laid for me a stumblingblock by the wayside.


Haughtiness of the eyes is the enlarging of the heart: the lamp of the wicked is sin.


And I am not troubled, following thee for my pastor: and I have not desired the day of man, thou knowest. That which went out of my lips hath been right in thy sight.


And dost thou seek great things for thyself? Seek not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord but I will give thee thy life and save thee in all places whithersoever thou shalt go.


(For Moses was a man exceeding meek above all men that dwelt upon earth)


Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.


Serving the Lord with all humility, and with tears, and temptations which befell me by the conspiracies of the Jews;


O the depth of the riches of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments, and how unsearchable his ways!


Being of one mind one towards another. Not minding high things, but consenting to the humble. Be not wise in your own conceits.


And that his heart be not lifted up with pride over his brethren, nor decline to the right or to the left: that he and his sons may reign a long time over Israel.


You are witnesses, and God also, how holily, and justly, and without blame, we have been to you that have believed:


Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren. And the spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward: and Samuel rose up, and went to Ramatha.


And one of the servants answering, said: Behold, I have seen a son of Isai the Bethlehemite, a skilful player, and one of great strength, and a man fit for war, and prudent in his words, and a comely person. And the Lord is with him.


And Saul sent to Isai, saying: Let David stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.


David went, and returned from Saul, to feed his father's flock at Bethlehem.


And the servants of Saul spoke all these words in the ears of David. And David said: Doth it seem to you a small matter to be the king's son-in-law? But I am a poor man, and of small ability.
