Two hundred she-goats, twenty he-goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams,


So the presents went before him; but himself lodged that night in the camp.


Then Israel said to them: If it must needs be so, do what you will. Take of the best fruits of the land in your vessels, and carry down presents to the man, a little balm, and honey, and storax, myrrh, turpentine, and almonds.


We will rejoice in thy salvation; and in the name of our God we shall be exalted.


Many calves have surrounded me: fat bulls have besieged me.


Thou hast brought forth, O Lord, my soul from hell: thou hast saved me from them that go down into the pit.


Neither shalt thou take bribes, which even blind the wise, and pervert the words of the just.


The wicked man taketh gifts out of the bosom, that he may pervert the paths of judgment.


A man's gift enlargeth his may, and maketh him room before princes.


A secret present quencheth anger: and a gift in the bosom the greatest wrath.


For as the crackling of thorns burning under a pot, so is the laughter of a fool: now this also is vanity.


Thy princes are faithless, companions of thieves: they all love bribes, the run after rewards. They judge not for the fatherless: and the widow's cometh not in to them.


Because I know your manifold crimes, and your grievous sine: enemies of the just, taking bribes, and oppressing the poor in the gate.


The evil of their hands they call good: the prince requireth, and the judge is for giving: and the great man hath uttered the desire of his soul, and they have troubled it.


And not go aside to either part. Thou shalt not accept person nor gifts: for gifts blind the eyes of the wise, and change the words of the just.


And David received at her hand all that she had brought him, and said to her: Go in peace into thy house. Behold, I have heard thy voice, and have honoured thy face.
