If I have been afraid at a very great multitude, and the contempt of kinsmen hath terrified me: and I have not rather held my peace, and not gone out of the door:


And I will feed them with the flesh of their sons and with the flesh of their daughters: and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege, and in the distress wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives shall straiten them.


Then the king commanded Abdemelech the Ethiopian, saying: Take from hence thirty men with thee and draw up Jeremias the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.


And Abdemelech went out of the king's house and spoke to the king, saying:


And I will deliver thee in that day, saith the Lord: and thou shalt not be given into the hands of the men whom thou fearest.


And in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a famine overpowered the city: and there was no food for the people of the land.


Caph. All her people sigh, they seek bread: they have given all their precious things for food to relieve the soul. See, O Lord, and consider, for I am become vile.


Sade. My life is fallen into the pit, and they have laid a stone over me.
