And when they had boldly perpetrated these things, Jacob said to Simeon and Levi: You have troubled me, and made me hateful to the Chanaanites and Pherezites, the inhabitants of this land. We are few: they will gather themselves together and kill me; and both I, and my house, shall be destroyed.


And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen, and houghed all the chariot horses: and only reserved of them for one hundred chariots.

Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the chair of pestilence:


For David himself. Bless the Lord, O my soul: O Lord my God, thou art exceedingly great. Thou hast put on praise and beauty:


From the face of the wicked who have afflicted me. My enemies have surrounded my soul:


Turn not away thy face from me; decline not in thy wrath from thy servant. Be thou my helper, forsake me not; do not thou despise me, O God my Saviour.


The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of majesty hath thundered, The Lord is upon many waters.


I am become a reproach among all my enemies, and very much to my neighbours; and a fear to my acquaintance. They that saw me without fled from me.


To thee, O God my God, I will give praise upon the harp: why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me?


Thou art thyself my king and my God, who commandest the saving of Jacob.


For there is no truth in their mouth: their heart is vain.


They shall come to nothing, like water running down; he hath bent his bow till they be weakened.


A Hymn, O God, becometh thee in Sion: and a vow shall be paid to thee in Jerusalem.


If they shall say: Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us hide snares for the innocent without cause:


The thoughts of the just are judgments: and the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.


I sat not in the assembly of jesters, nor did I make a boast of the presence of thy hand: I sat alone, because thou hast filled me with threats.


My bowels, my bowels, are in pain, the senses of my heart are troubled within me. I will not hold my peace, for my soul hath heard the sound of the trumpet, the cry of battle.


And I will say to my soul: Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years take thy rest; eat, drink, make good cheer.


Bear not the yoke with unbelievers. For what participation hath justice with injustice? Or what fellowship hath light with darkness?


Cursed be he that secretly killeth his neighbour. And all the people shall say: Amen.


And he did as the Lord had commanded him: he hamstringed their horses and burned their chariots.


The torrent of Cison dragged their carcasses, the torrent of Cadumim, the torrent of Cison. Tread thou, my soul, upon the strong ones.
