14 Now, therefore, the maid to whom I shall say: Let down thy pitcher that I may drink: and she shall answer, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: Let it be the same whom thou hast provided for thy servant Isaac. And by this I shall understand, that thou hast shown kindness to my master.

Behold, I stand nigh the spring of water, and the daughters of the inhabitants of this city will come out to draw water.


He had not yet ended these words within himself, and, behold, Rebecca came out, the daughter of Bathuel, son of Melcha, wife to Nachor the brother of Abraham, having a pitcher on her shoulder.


And she answered: Drink, my lord. And quickly she let down the pitcher upon her arm, and gave him drink.


And when he had drunk, she said: I will draw water for thy camels also, till they all drink.


Behold, I stand by the well of water, and the virgin, that shall come out to draw water, who shall hear me say: Give me a little water to drink of thy pitcher:


And shall say to me: Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: Let the same be the woman, whom the Lord hath prepared for my master's son.


And Joab said to Amasa: God save thee, my brother. And he took Amasa by the chin with his right hand to kiss him.


And when thou shalt hear the sound of one going in the tops of the pear-trees, then shalt thou join battle. For then will the Lord go out before thy face to strike the army of the Philistines.


House and riches are given by parents: but a prudent wife is properly from the Lord.


Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God, either unto the depth of hell, or unto the height above.


Always in my prayers making request, if by any means now at length I may have a prosperous journey, by the will of God, to come unto you.


Then they desired him to consult the Lord, that they might know whether their journey should be prosperous, and the thing should have effect.


And he said: If I have found grace before thee, give me a sign that it is thou that speakest to me:


I will put this fleece of wool on the floor. If there be dew on the fleece only, and it be dry on all the ground beside, I, shall know that by my hand, as thou hast said, thou wilt deliver Israel.


If he shall say: It is well; thy servant shall have peace. But if he be angry, know that his malice is come to its height.
