And immediately the word of the Lord came to him, saying: He shall not be thy heir: but he that shall come out of thy bowels, him shalt thou have for thy heir.


Giving great salvation to his king: and shewing mercy to David his anointed, and to his seed for ever.


Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king sleepeth with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.


And he said: Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who hath given this day one to sit on my throne, my eyes seeing it.


And the days of David drew nigh that he should die, and he charged his son Solomon, saying:


So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.


That the Lord may confirm his words, which he hath spoken of me, saying: If thy children shall take heed to their ways, and shall walk before me in truth, with all their heart, and with all their soul, there shall not be taken away from thee a man on the throne of Israel.


Wherefore I purpose to build a temple to the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spoke to David my father, saying: Thy son, whom I will set upon the throne in thy place, he shall build a house to my name.


And Solomon said: Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and with his own hands hath accomplished it, saying:


Nevertheless thou shalt not build me a house: but thy son, that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build a house to my name.


The Lord hath performed his word which he spoke. And I stand in the room of David my father: and sit upon the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised: and have built a house to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.


I will establish the throne of thy kingdom over Israel for ever, as I promised David thy father, saying: There shall not fail a man of thy race upon the throne of Israel.


But the Lord would not destroy Juda, for David his servant's sake: as he had promised him, to give him a light, and to his children always.


And when thou shalt have ended thy days to go to thy fathers, I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons: and I will establish his kingdom.


Now therefore, O Lord God, let thy word be fulfilled, which thou hast promised to David my father: for thou hast made me king over thy great people, which is as innumerable as the dust of the earth.


Do you not know that the Lord God of Israel gave to David the kingdom over Israel for ever, to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?


But the Lord would not destroy the house of David: because of the covenant which he had made with him: and because he had promised to give a lamp to him, and to his sons for ever.


And all the multitude made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And Joiada said to them: Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the Lord hath said of the sons of David.


Who hast performed to thy servant David my father all that thou hast promised him: and hast accomplished in fact, what thou hast spoken with thy mouth; as also the present time proveth.


But thou shalt not build the house: but thy son, who shall come out of thy loins, he shall build a house to my name.


In that day, the root of Jesse, who standeth for an ensign of the people, him the Gentiles shall beseech: and his sepulchre shall be glorious.


His empire shall be multiplied, and there shall be no end of peace. He shall sit upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom: to establish it and strengthen it with judgment and with justice, from henceforth and for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.


For thus saith the Lord: There shall not be cut off from David a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel.


THE book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham:


He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the most High; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever.


And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures, the things that were concerning him.


For David, when he had served in his generation, according to the will of God, slept: and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption.


Whereas therefore he was a prophet, and knew that God hath sworn to him with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins one should sit upon his throne.


Behold, I tell you a mystery. We shall all indeed rise again: but we shall not all be changed.


And the Lord said to Moses: Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, and this people rising up will go a-fornicating after strange gods in the land, to which it goeth in to dwell. There will they forsake me, and will make void the covenant, which I have made with them,


For this we say unto you in the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them who have slept.
