And behold, the whole kindred rising against thy handmaid saith: Deliver him that hath slain his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother, whom he slew, and that we may destroy the heir. And they seek to quench my spark which is left, and will leave my husband no name, nor remainder upon the earth.


And sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abisai the son of Sarvia Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ethai, who was of Geth. And the king said to the people: I also will go forth with you.


And the people answered: Thou shalt not go forth; for if we flee away they will not much mind us. Or if half of us should fall, they will not greatly care: for thou alone art accounted for ten thousand. It is better therefore that thou shouldst be in the city to succour us.


He prevented me in the day of my affliction: and the Lord became my stay.


For thou art my lamp, O Lord: and thou, O Lord, wilt enlighten my darkness.


And to his son I will give one tribe: that there may remain a lamp for my servant David before me always in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen, that my name might be there.


But for David's sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:


Let all thy works, O lord, praise thee: and let thy saints bless thee.


Unto the end, for the sons of Core.


But Johanan the son of Caree spoke to Godolias privately in Masphath, saying: I will go and I will kill Ismahel the son of Nathanias, and no man shall know it, lest he kill thee, and all the Jews be scattered that are gathered unto thee, and the remnant of Juda perish.


He was a burning and a shining light: and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.
