I will set my face against you, and you shall fall down before your enemies: and shall be made subject to them that hate you. You shall flee when no man pursueth you.


After these things are declared they shall add the rest, and shall speak to the people: What man is there that is fearful, and faint-hearted? Let him go, and return to his house, lest he make the hearts of his brethren to fear, as he himself is possessed with fear.


The Lord make thee to fall down before thy enemies. One way mayst thou go out against them, and flee seven ways, and be scattered throughout all the kingdoms of the earth.


And we possessed the land at that time from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the torrent Arnon, unto the half of mount Galaad. And I gave the cities thereof to Ruben and Gad.


And Galaad, and the borders of Gessuri and Machati, and all mount Hermon, and all Basan as far as Salecha,


With whom Ruben and Gad have possessed the land, which Moses the servant of the Lord delivered to them beyond the river Jordan, on the east side.


Speak to the people, and proclaim in the hearing of all: Whosoever is fearful and timorous, let him return. So two and twenty thousand men went away from mount Galaad and returned home; and only ten thousand remained.


And he waited seven days according to the appointment of Samuel; and Samuel came not to Galgal. And the people slipt away from him.


And Saul and all the Israelites hearing these words of the Philistine were dismayed, and greatly afraid.


And the men of Israel, that were beyond the valley, and beyond the Jordan, seeing that the Israelites were fled, and that Saul was dead, and his sons, forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came, and dwelt there.
