Arrogance precedes destruction. And the spirit is exalted before a fall.

Humiliation follows the arrogant. And glory shall uphold the humble in spirit.


I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not his own. Neither is it given to man to walk and to direct his own steps.


The heart is depraved above all things, and it is unsearchable, who can know it?


But whoever will have denied me before men, I also will deny before my Father, who is in heaven.


But they said to him, "We can." Then Jesus said to them: "Indeed, you shall drink from the chalice, from which I drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism, with which I am to be baptized.


And Jesus said to him, "Amen I say to you, that this day, in this night, before the rooster has uttered its voice twice, you will deny me three times."


And they went to a country estate, by the name of Gethsemani. And he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I pray."


But they persisted, with loud voices, in demanding that he be crucified. And their voices increased in intensity.


Peter said to him: "Why am I unable to follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!"
