Yet I planted you as an elect vineyard, with only true seed. Then how have you been turned away from me, toward that which is depraved, O strange vineyard?


And I said: "Alas, alas, alas, O Lord God! They are saying about me: 'Does this man not speak except through parables?' "


And he spoke many things to them in parables, saying: "Behold, a sower went out to sow seed.


But how does it seem to you? A certain man had two sons. And approaching the first, he said: 'Son, go out today to work in my vineyard.'


Listen to another parable. There was a man, the father of a family, who planted a vineyard, and surrounded it with a hedge, and dug a press in it, and built a tower. And he loaned it out to farmers, and he set out to sojourn abroad.


Then, when the time of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the farmers, so that they might receive its fruits.


For it is like a man setting out on a long journey, who called his servants and delivered to them his goods.


And answering, they said to Jesus, "We do not know." And in response, Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."


It is like a man who, setting out on a sojourn, left behind his house, and gave his servants authority over every work, and instructed the doorkeeper to stand watch.


And having called them together, he spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan cast out Satan?


And he taught them many things in parables, and he said to them, in his doctrine:


And after not many days, the younger son, gathering it all together, set out on a long journey to a distant region. And there, he dissipated his substance, living in luxury.


Therefore, he said: "A certain man of nobility traveled to a far away region, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.


But they said, "Where do you want us to prepare it?"


And he said to them: "To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God. But to the rest, it is in parables, so that: seeing, they may not perceive, and hearing, they may not understand.


This is he who was in the Church in the wilderness, with the Angel who was speaking to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. It is he who received the words of life to give to us.
