And thou shalt divide the spoil equally, between them that fought and went out to the war, and between the rest of the multitude.
He said to them: With much substance and riches, you return to your settlements: with silver and gold, brass and iron, and variety of raiment. Divide the prey of your enemies with your brethren.
And all that were in distress and oppressed with debt, and under affliction of mind gathered themselves unto him. And he became their prince. And there were with him about four hundred men.
Then David said to his young men: Let every man gird on his sword. And they girded on every man his sword. And David also girded on his sword: and there followed David about four hundred men. And two hundred remained with the baggage.
But David said: You shall not do so, my brethren, with these things, which the Lord hath given us, who hath kept us, and hath delivered the robbers that invaded us into our hands.
And this hath been done from that day forward, and since was made a statute, and an ordinance, and as a law in Israel.
