Do not so, I beseech you, my brethren; do not commit this evil.


Therefore will he offer victims to his drag, and he will sacrifice to his net: because through them his portion is made fat, and his meat dainty.


MEN, brethren, and fathers, hear ye the account which I now give unto you.


Who said: Ye men, brethren, and fathers, hear. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charan.


That when thou hast eaten, and art full, thou mayst bless the Lord thy God for the excellent land which he hath given thee.


Lest thou shouldst say in thy heart: My own might, and the strength of my own hand have achieved all these things for me.


But remember the Lord thy God, that he hath given thee strength, that he might fulfil his covenant, concerning which he swore to thy fathers, as this present day sheweth.


And the old man went out to them, and said: Do not so, my brethren, do not so wickedly, because this man is come into my lodging: and cease I pray you from this folly.


The Lord maketh poor and maketh rich: he humbleth and he exalteth.


Then all the wicked and unjust men that had gone with David answering, said: Because they came not with us, we will not give them any thing of the prey which we have recovered. But let every man take his wife and his children, and be contented with them, and go his way.


And no man shall hearken to you in this matter. But equal shall be the portion of him that went down to battle and of him that abode at the baggage; and they shall divide alike.


And David consulted the Lord, saying: Shall I pursue after these robbers, and shall I overtake them, or not? And the Lord said to him: Pursue after them. For thou shalt surely overtake them and recover the prey.
