Then Abram set out and continued towards the Negev.


So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, with his wife and everything he had, and Lot went with him.


Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.’


From the Negev he went from place to place until he came to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier


Now the Valley of Siddim was full of tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of the men fell into them and the rest fled to the hills.


See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many.


The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.’


Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country, saying, ‘Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!’

So Joshua subdued the whole region, including the hill country, the Negev, the western foothills and the mountain slopes, together with all their kings. He left no survivors. He totally destroyed all who breathed, just as the Lord, the God of Israel, had commanded.

She replied, ‘Do me a special favour. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.’ So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.


The Lord was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had chariots fitted with iron.


After that, Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites living in the hill country, the Negev and the western foothills.
