And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.


After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma temple tax came to Peter and asked, ‘Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?’


to fulfil what was said through the prophet Isaiah:


‘Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles –


Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.


They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.


A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home.


And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.


Jesus said to them, ‘Surely you will quote this proverb to me: “Physician, heal yourself!” And you will tell me, “Do here in your home town what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.” ’


After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.


Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay ill at Capernaum.


where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.


Once the crowd realised that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.


He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
