Then the Lord said, ‘The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous


Then the Lord God said to the woman, ‘What is this you have done?’ The woman said, ‘The snake deceived me, and I ate.’


And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being.


“Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, declares the Lord, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the Lord.” Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the Lord.’


But a prophet of the Lord named Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army when it returned to Samaria. He said to them, ‘Because the Lord, the God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he gave them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a rage that reaches to heaven.


‘Earth, do not cover my blood; may my cry never be laid to rest!


The groans of the dying rise from the city, and the souls of the wounded cry out for help. But God charges no-one with wrongdoing.


When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you.


He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.


For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted.


Lord, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,

to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.


Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.
