The Lord our God saved us!\par God brought us back from those nations\par so we could praise his holy name,\par so we could sing praises to him.\par


The Lord gathered his people together\par from many different countries.\par He brought them from east and west,\par north and south. {\cf2\super [565]} \par


God was angry,\par so the decision was “death.”\par But he showed his love,\par and gave me “life.”\par At night,\par I lay crying.\par The next morning,\par I was happy and singing!\par


When I was safe and secure,\par I thought nothing could hurt me!\par


At that time, my Master (God) will again reach out and take his people that are left. This will be the second time God has done this. \{(These are God’s people that are left in countries like Assyria, North Egypt, South Egypt, Ethiopia, Elam, Babylonia, Hamath, and all the faraway countries around the world.)


God will raise this “flag” as a sign for all people. The people of Israel and Judah were forced to leave their country. The people were scattered to all the faraway places on earth. But God will gather them together.


At that time, you will say:\par “I praise you Lord!\par You have been angry at me.\par But don’t be angry with me now!\par Show your love to me.”\par


\{In the future,\} the Lord will again show his love to Jacob. The Lord will again choose the people of Israel. \{At that time,\} the Lord will give those people their land. Then non-Jewish people {\cf2\super [146]} will join themselves to the Jewish people. Both people will join and become one family—Jacob’s family.


My people, go into your rooms.\par Lock your doors.\par Hide in your rooms for a short time.\par Hide until God’s anger is finished.\par


At that time, the Lord will begin separating his people from others. He will begin at the Euphrates River. {\cf2\super [253]} The Lord will gather all his people from the Euphrates River to the River of Egypt. {\cf2\super [254]}


The Lord will settle his argument with Israel by sending her far away. The Lord will speak harshly to Israel. His words will burn like the hot desert wind.


The Lord will lead his people\par like a shepherd leads sheep.\par The Lord will use his arm (power)\par and gather his sheep together.\par The Lord will pick up the little sheep\par and hold them in his arms.\par Their mothers will walk beside him.\par


Heavens and Earth, be happy!\par Mountains, shout with joy!\par Why? Because the Lord comforts his people.\par The Lord is good to his poor people.\par


Look up! Look all around you!\par All of your children are gathering together and coming to you.\par


Then you will say to yourself,\par ‘Who gave me all these children?\par This is very good!\par I was sad and lonely.\par I was defeated and away from my people.\par So who gave me these children?\par Look, I was left alone.\par Where did all these children come from?’”\par


The Lord says,\par “\{People of Israel, you say that I divorced\par your mother, Jerusalem.\}\par But where is the legal paper\par that proves I divorced her?\par My children, did I owe money to someone?\par Did I sell you to pay a debt?\par No! You were sold\par because of the bad things you did.\par Your mother (Jerusalem) was sent away\par because of the bad things you did.\par


The Lord my Master said these things.


Children from other lands\par will build your walls again.\par Their kings will serve you.\par


Look around you!\par See, people are gathering around\par and coming to you.\par They are your sons coming from far away.\par And your daughters are coming with them.\par


You will never again be called\par ‘The People that God had Left.’\par Your land will never again be called\par ‘The Land that God Destroyed.’\par You will be called\par ‘The People God Loves.’\par Your land will be called\par ‘God’s Bride.’\par Why? Because the Lord loves you.\par And your land will belong to him.\par


I will remember that the Lord is kind.\par And I will remember to praise the Lord.\par The Lord gave many good things to the family of Israel.\par The Lord has been very kind to us.\par The Lord showed mercy to us.\par


“Those people have evil thoughts and do evil things. So I am coming to punish them. I will gather all nations and all people. All people will come together and see my power.


The Lord All-Powerful\par did not leave Israel and Judah alone,\par like a woman whose husband has died.\par God did not leave those people.\par No! Those people are guilty\par of leaving the Holy One of Israel.\par They left him,\par but he has not left them.\par


That person should remember that\par the Lord does not reject people forever.\par


When the Lord punishes,\par he also has mercy.\par He has mercy because of his great love\par and kindness.\par


\{God said,\} “I will take you out of those nations, gather you together, and bring you back to your own land.


The Lord says,\par “\{Jerusalem\} was hurt and crippled.\par \{Jerusalem\} was thrown away.\par \{Jerusalem\} was hurt and punished.\par But I will bring her back \{to me\}.\par


“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets. {\cf2\super [361]} You kill with rocks those men that God sent to you. Many, many times I wanted to help your people. I wanted to gather your people together like a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you did not let me.


God’s goal was to finish his plan when the right time came. God planned that all things in heaven and on earth be joined together with Christ as the head.


Then the Lord your God will be kind to you. The Lord will make you free again! He will bring you back from those nations where he sent you.


But the grace (kindness) that God gives is greater. Like the Scripture says, “God is against proud people, but he gives grace (kindness) to people who are humble.” {\cf2\super [22]}


But don’t forget this one thing, dear friends: To the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day.
