15 “You people will raise your arms to pray to me—but I will refuse to look at you. You people will say more and more prayers—but I will refuse to listen to you. Why? Because your hands are covered with blood.

Then Solomon stood in front of the Lord’s altar. [113] All of the people were standing in front of him. King Solomon spread his hands and looked toward the sky.


Solomon prayed that prayer to God. He was on his knees in front of the altar. [116] Solomon prayed with his arms raised toward heaven. Then Solomon finished praying and stood.


Then, when it was time for the evening sacrifice, I got up. I had made myself look shameful while I was sitting there. My robe and coat were torn, and I fell on my knees with my hands spread out to the Lord my God.


He will be scared.\par It will be like a flood,\par like a storm came\par and carried everything away.\par


It is true, God won’t listen\par to their worthless begging.\par God All-Powerful won’t\par pay attention to them.\par


Servants, lift your arms\par and bless the Lord.\par


God, hear my prayer.\par Please don’t ignore my prayer for mercy.\par


My heart was pure,\par so my Master listened to me.\par


Moses told Pharaoh, “When I leave the city, I will lift my arms in prayer to the Lord. And the thunder and hail will stop. Then you will know that the Lord is in this land.


“When all these things happen, you will ask for my help. But I will not help you. You will look for me, but you will not find me.

The Lord will wash away the blood {\cf2\super [39]} from the women of Zion. {\cf2\super [40]} The Lord will wash all the blood out of Jerusalem. God will use the spirit of justice \{and judge fairly\}. And he will use the spirit of burning, \{and make everything pure\}.


God, you are the God people can’t see.\par You are the Savior of Israel.\par


You are hungry; but not for food. You are hungry for arguing and fighting, not bread. You are hungry to hit people with your evil hands. When you stop eating food, it is not for me. You don’t want to use your voice to praise me.


I want you to share your food with the hungry people. I want you to find poor people that don’t have homes, and I want you to bring them into your own homes. When you see a man that has no clothes—give him your clothes! Don’t hide \{from helping those people\}; they are just like you.”


We don’t worship you.\par We don’t trust in your name.\par We aren’t excited about following you.\par So you have turned away from us.\par We are helpless before you,\par because we are full of sin.\par


So the Lord says: “I will soon make something terrible happen to the people of Judah. They will not be able to escape! They will be sorry. And they will cry to me for help. But I will not listen to them.


The people of Judah might begin to fast {\cf2\super [122]} \{and pray to me\}. But I will not listen to their prayers. Even if they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings to me, I will not accept those people. I will destroy the people of Judah with war. I will take away their food, and the people of Judah will starve. And I will destroy them with terrible diseases.”


I hear a cry like a woman having a baby.\par It is a scream like a woman\par that is having her first baby.\par It is the cry of the Daughter of Zion. {\cf2\super [32]} \par She is lifting her hands in prayer, saying,\par “Oh! I am about to faint!\par Murderers are all around me!”\par


You have killed many people in this city. You have filled the streets with dead bodies.


“Son of man, {\cf2\super [112]} these men came to talk to you. \{They wanted you to ask me for advice.\} But these men still have their filthy idols. They kept the things that made them sin. They still worship those statues. So why do they come to me for advice? Should I answer their questions? No!


And the nations will know why the family of Israel was carried away as prisoners to other countries. They will learn that my people turned against me. So I turned away from them. I let their enemies defeat them. So my people were killed in battle.


“The leaders of the people went to look for the Lord. They took their ‘sheep’ and ‘cows’ with them. But they did not find the Lord. Why? Because he left them.


So, you might pray to the Lord,\par but he will not answer you.\par No, the Lord will hide his face from you.\par Why? Because you do evil things!”\par


So the Lord All-Powerful said,\par “I called to them,\par and they did not answer.\par So now, if they call to me,\par I will not answer.\par


“It will be bad for you teachers of the law and Pharisees. {\cf2\super [333]} You are hypocrites. {\cf2\super [334]} You close the way for people to enter the kingdom of heaven. You yourselves don’t enter, and you stop the people that are trying to enter.


“And when you pray, don’t be like those people that don’t know God. They continue saying things that mean nothing. Don’t pray like that. They think that God will hear them because of the many things they say.


We all know that God does not listen to sinners. But God will listen to a person that worships and obeys him.


I want men everywhere to pray. These men who lift up their hands in prayer must be pleasing to God. They must not be men who become angry and have arguments.
